There’s fit and then there’s NAVYfit

When it comes to fitness there’s a new benchmark to aim for – Navyfit. The peak of physical and mental fitness for Naval personnel, NAVYfit is the name for a new website dedicated to providing a ‘one-stop shop’ for all things sport, adventurous training and physical education.

Launched today, NAVYfit replaces the former PDev Portal and will be hosted on the homepage of the Defence Gateway – and is only available to Service personnel. It can also be accessed from the Royal Navy intranet and the Royal Navy’s website and social media sites.

Championed by the Naval Secretary, Rear Admiral Simon Williams CVO, NAVYfit will be regularly updated with new fitness plans and workouts along with information on health initiatives, how to join sports associations and take part in the many AT opportunities.

RAdm Williams said: “I am delighted to support NAVYfit as a fresh initiative to encourage personnel towards a healthier lifestyle.  

"I encourage you all to use the new website which details different ways to stay active on a regular basis as well as information and guidance on quitting smoking and improving a poor diet.

"As Service personnel we should all aspire to being at the peak of our fitness ability and NAVYfit is an excellent place to start.”

NAVYfit contains a wealth of information about the 40 sports associations – and how to join – plus all the different adventurous training opportunities available.

There is also a whole area devoted to physical education with advice on health activities such as quitting smoking and understanding alcohol limits, information on the Royal Navy fitness test plus a new weekly highlight of fitness and workout plans, lifestyle tips and diet and nutrition information which personnel can download to use in their own time.

“The strategy behind NAVYfit is to increase participation by making the broad menu of opportunities attractive and accessible” explained Captain Mike Young, Head of Physical Development.

The launch will be supported by videos featuring Naval Service personnel during their daily workouts, posters around all establishments and units, and a variety of interactive material on social media channels Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
