Royal Fleet Auxiliary in London for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary will be in the heart of London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Support ship RFA Mounts Bay will sail the Thames and berth at Greenwich Ship Tier Buoys ahead of hosting events across the jubilee celebration from 2-6 June.

Mounts Bay will host tours and welcome dignitaries from across the UK and Commonwealth, while a hundred schoolchildren will be aboard for The Big Jubilee Lunch.

The annual lunch brings communities together to celebrate their connections and get to know each other a little bit better.

Ahead of arriving on Wednesday, Commanding Officer, Captain James Wingrove RFA, said: “It is a huge privilege for my ship’s company to have the opportunity to represent the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and RFA Mounts Bay in the capital during this historic occasion.

 “We are looking forward to hosting numerous events to commemorate the Queens Platinum Jubilee and to celebrate the service she has given our country and the Commonwealth over the 70-years of her reign.”

Mounts Bay is regularly deploy across the globe on operations. Notably, she was on missions across the North Atlantic and Caribbean from 2017 to 2020 and provided disaster relief in the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes Irma, Maria and Dorian.
