Funeral Service for hugely respected Surgeon Captain Rick Jolly

The funeral service for the hugely-respected and popular Falklands veteran Surg Capt Rick Jolly, who died earlier this month, will be held at HMS Raleigh on Saturday February 10.

As a Surgeon Commander, Dr Jolly famously oversaw 3 Commando Brigade's medical facility at Ajax Bay during the 1982 conflict - a makeshift facility he dubbed the Red and Green Life Machine.

He was the only veteran of the South Atlantic to be decorated by both sides for his actions - the OBE from a grateful British people, the Orden de Mayo from Buenos Aires for his efforts to treat Argentine wounded in 1982.

As well as an illustrious 24 year career in the RN, he was a founding member of the South Atlantic Medal Association - the official Falklands veterans' organisations - served as a civilian doctor, including a spell at HMS Raleigh, and produced the 'Bible' of Naval slang, Jackspeak, which he constantly updated.

Surg Capt Jolly died on 13 January 2018, aged 71.

Those who wish to celebrate his life and achievements by attending his funeral at the Torpoint establishment should pass their details to the South Atlantic Medal Association via the online form at www.sama82.org.uk.

The service will begin at 1 pm, with Raleigh's gates open for mourners from 12 noon. Attendees are requested to bring photographic ID.

Parking is available on the Spickernell site at HMS Raleigh. There will be a reception after the service.
