The Royal Navy has been named in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2018 List as a leader on workplace gender equality.
The unranked alphabetical list celebrates UK employers who are building gender equality into their business strategy and have committed to creating inclusive workplace cultures and women’s progression at work.
The Royal Navy’s Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Tony Radakin, said he was delighted that the Royal Navy has been recognised: “We work extremely hard to provide career structures and opportunities that are open to everyone, regardless of their sex, gender, race or sexual orientation.
"We strive to provide inclusive environments where our people can feel valued and respected and reach their full potential.
"Women have played an integral part of the Naval Service for over 100 years, and with the opportunity to join the Royal Marines General Service opened from 2019, I am proud that all positions across the Naval Service are available to women."
Captain Ellie Ablett MBE, the Commanding Officer HMS Raleigh and Chair of the Naval Servicewomen’s Network said: “I am proud to work in an organisation where diversity is genuinely embraced and inclusion is fundamental to our core Naval Values and to our operational success.
"So it is fantastic to see the Royal Navy achieve recognition in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for its continuing efforts to be an employer of choice for women as well as for men."
The Times Top 50 Employers for Women List recognises UK employers from all sector of business and industry who lead on gender diversity and involves a comprehensive submission process managed by the gender equality campaign at Business in the Community.
The list is published in partnership with Business in the Community, the Prince’s Responsible Business Network, as part of the charity’s Responsible Business Week.
