A mountainous adventure for Yankee Squadron

Storyline: Adventurous Training

MTXG Yankee Squadron Unit 1 completed a very successful week of unit level Adventure Training (AT) in the Snowdonia National Park.

The hiking activity undertaken saw the team summit the Y Garn ridge, at an altitude of 938m, over rough ground and twisting paths carved into in the mountain side.

Led by POPT Gareth Reid, and supported by Lt Bonham, the emphasis was to take Yankee Sqn 1 for a enthralling couple of days to unwind at the back end of a testing term and was designed to build rapport between the unit.

POPT Reid said, ‘The hikes provided spectacular views of the “Devil’s Kitchen” (Cwm Idwal area), which was traversed to reach the peak and makes up part of the ogwen Valley in North Wales.

Subsequent rewarding hiking activity included the “Goldrush” route in the Coed y Brenin Forest Park which was demanding but enjoyed by all.’

Lt Cdr S Jane participated in the activity and said, ‘to get the team out into the mountains safely was the perfect way to end the term. The fact that we had significant support from both POPT Reid and Lt Bonham is a great testament to their units and a huge thank you goes to them both for their organisation and professionalism throughout.’
