THE WINTER DISCIPLINES, UNWRAPPED

Alpine Skiing 

  • Compete in Slalom, Giant Slalom, and SuperG

  • The festival offers accessible lessons to teach fundamentals to newcomers

  • Novices can participate in a supportive, timed beginners' Giant Slalom race

Telemark Skiing 

  • Highly relevant to sub-arctic operations

  • Develops focus, adaptability, and physical endurance

  • Offers opportunities ranging from initial carving turns to elite competition

Nordic Skiing / Biathlon

  • Includes cross-country skiing, biathlon (skiing and shooting), and military patrol racing 

  • Categorised as Individual Military Training

  • Exercise Snow Globe in Italy offers annual training for beginners

Snowboarding

  • Supports progression from grassroots beginnings to elite competition level

  • The RN Snowsports Festival provides real-snow experience

  • Features Parallel Slalom, Boardercross, and Slopestyle 

Cresta

  • Personnel travel to St Moritz to ride the world’s oldest ice run 

  • Provides bespoke training for novice riders

  • The RN team includes some of the fastest riders in the run’s history

Skeleton

  • A high-speed, head-first discipline 

  • Compete for a spot on the representative team

  • Progress to the RN and Inter-Service Championships on European ice tracks

Luge

  • Grassroots selection and initial training are held in the UK

  • Beginners progress under GB coach supervision

  • Opportunity to join the RN Team to compete in the Inter-Service Luge Championships

Bobsleigh

  • Introductory training days at the University of Bath

  • Annual team trials to compete for a spot on the representative team

  • The team travels to various tracks across Europe
