RN Archery is a sport that has many different styles and adjustments that makes it the sport for everyone.
Aiming for Gold
Archery is one of the most inclusive and rewarding sports in Navy Sport, combining skill, concentration and community in a way few sports can.
Whether you are picking up a bow for the first time or competing at elite level, there is a place for you within the association.
Archery is a sport for everyone, regardless of age, gender or ability. It is one of the few sports where able-bodied and impaired athletes can compete on equal terms, creating a truly level playing field.
One Team. Every Level.
Archery is the practice of using a bow to shoot arrows.
The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning ‘bow’. Historically, archery was used for hunting and combat, having been invented in the late Palaeolithic or early Mesolithic periods.
The oldest signs of archery unearthed in Europe date to around 10,000 BC, while evidence in Asia dates the invention of the bow even earlier. In modern times, archery is primarily a competitive sport and recreational activity.
While the format has changed, the principles of precision, focus, control and repetition remain the same. Archery featured at the Olympic Games in the early 1900s and joined the programme permanently in 1972.
RN archery is still growing, we might not have the impact other sports have, but this sport allows you to meet new people and will allow you to train a skill that is important in your life, patience. There is a lot of different areas of archery that you will be able to try, these areas don’t always get the same attention, but the RN will support where we can.
