Delivering the punch of the Royal Marines

Royal Navy inflatable and small landing craft at sea

Deploying the Marines

The Albion Class assault ships can deploy Royal Marines to shore by air and by sea. Troops are deployed at sea via a Landing Craft Utility (LCU) - which requires the well dock of the Albion Class ships to be flooded – or via smaller inflatable boats. The inflatable boats can be launched simply by lowering the ship’s aft gate to water level.

Rapid deployment

The docking area of the Albion Class ships can be flooded by ballasting the stern of the ship, allowing the landing craft to float out. The LPD is equipped with a new design of roll-on, roll-off landing craft, the LCU MK10, which means that the land vehicles are forward-facing for quick and easy disembarking.
