You’re not alone when you’re a member of the Service community.

Whether you’re spending time away from family, relocating to a new area or conducting a long-distance relationship, there’s advice and support available to help you.

The majority is provided by the Royal Navy Family and People Support (RN FPS) team, while charities also offer important services.

Health and wellbeing

When you're spending time away from family, conducting long distance relationships or relocating, your mental health can be affected. If you ever feel you need support, there are dedicated organisations offering helplines.

Each Naval unit has an Information Officer (IO), who is your face-to-face point of contact when you have a Service-related query or just need some advice.

Compassionate support

If there's a situation that requires specialist welfare support, from problems at home to a family illness, you can get the help you need. That might mean organising compassionate leave, speaking to the RN FPS team, or spending time with a Chaplain.

Key Charities

Samaritans

If you need emotional support, are distressed or feel unable to cope with your situation, there's someone waiting to listen to you - just call 116 123.

Aurora New Dawn (AND)

If you’re a survivor of domestic or sexual abuse, AND is a registered charity that’s committed to giving you the support, advocacy and empowerment you need. The AND Armed Forces Advocate is based at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth and contactable by phone and email.

Seafarers' Advice & Information Line (SAIL)

SAIL is a free UK-wide Citizens Advice service dedicated to RN and RM personnel, and their partners. SAIL can help with a wide range of issues from debt to immigration. You can contact SAIL between 10am - 4pm on weekdays on: 0800 160 1842.

The Naval Children’s Charity

The Naval Children’s Charity provides grants and support to children (up to and including the age of 25) whose parents serve or have served in the Naval Service.

Combat Stress

If you're a veteran suffering from stress, anxiety or depression, there's a dedicated 24-hour helpline available to help you through any tough times.

Togetherall

This service is specially contracted by the MOD to provide you with mental health support and advice for coping with the stresses of everyday life. You can talk to other users about your experiences and even get self-help guides if you want to cut down drinking, stop smoking or manage anxiety.
