At a glance

Year 11 and 12 students with the appropriate grades can apply for generous annual bursary payments for studying Maths and Physics A-Level. It offers a bursary of £1,500 per year paid to parents or guardian. It also offers entry on to a sponsored university scheme.  

Year 13 students can apply for University Cadetship Entry. This is a highly-selective scheme that offers 5 places per year. Members of UCE complete Initial Officer Training immediately after their A-Levels. After this, they attend university to study an approved engineering degree, with full tuition fees paid and on a full-time salary.  

Those applying to or already studying an approved engineering degree subject can apply for a sponsored degree on the Defence STEM Undergraduate Sponsorship Scheme (DSUS). There are 35 places per year. On DSUS the RN pays tuition fees and awards a £5,000 per year bursary. After graduation, DSUS bursars attend Initial Officer Training.  

Keep in mind, you’ll need to complete at least 3 years’ service once trained if you study a sponsored degree.
