How to do Navy Press-ups

To prepare properly for your fitness tests, and to get ready for Basic Training, it’s important you master the correct techniques for key exercises. To do a Royal Navy press-up, you need to:

Place your hands shoulder width apart, with your fingers pointing forward and your arms slightly bent. Bend your arms, maintaining a rigid body line and look directly ahead. Make sure your elbows tucked in to your side.

Complete the repetition by lowering your body until your chest is fist height from the floor and your arms are bent at approximately 90 degrees. When you do press-ups at Royal Navy tests, you will complete the upwards and downwards motion of each press-up in time with beeps. This is to ensure the right level of muscle tension.
