Student medical technicians and nurses

The Royal Navy offers an incredible opportunity for fully paid sponsorship through university as an Adult Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Operating Department Practitioner, Biomedical Scientist and Radiographer. As long as you are studying a science-based A-level (including Health and Social Care or Psychology) or equivalent, you could be eligible to apply for one of these roles.

How does it work?

  • If successful in your application, you would complete 10 weeks Initial Naval Training at HMS Raleigh before starting university on a full time salary with all your university fees paid for by us.
  • You’ll even get subsidised accommodation and some extra money for food and subsistence expenses.
  • You’ll live on a university campus with other tri-service military healthcare students which gives you great support whilst you’re studying as well as being able to enjoy the social side of university too.
  • Whilst studying, you’ll maintain your fitness and do military training and exercises and have wider military support throughout your training.

What are my options?

Adult and Mental Health Nurses

Adult Nurses and Mental Health Nurses study at Birmingham City University. If you already have your A-level (or equivalent) results, you’ll start Initial Naval Training in May, followed by BCU in Sept. If you’re still finishing your exams, you can join Initial Naval Training in the September, followed by BCU the following January.

Operating Department Practitioners and Radiographers

Operating Department Practitioners and Radiographers all study at Birmingham City University. Once you have your A-level (or equivalent) qualifications in hand, You’ll start Initial Naval Training in May, followed by joining BCU in September.

Biomedical Scientists

Our Biomedical Scientists all study at Aston University. Once you have your A-level (or equivalent) qualifications in hand, You’ll start Initial Naval Training in May, followed by joining Aston University in September.
