HMS Hibernia

HMS Hibernia (Belfast)

HMS Hibernia is the Royal Naval Reserve unit associated with Belfast.

Add to favourites

HMS Hibernia is the Royal Naval Reserve’s newest unit, following the decommissioning of HMS Caroline in Belfast in December 2009.

As the only RNR unit in Northern Ireland, our Reservists represent a cross section of the Northern Ireland population.

Although many of our Reservists come from the Greater Belfast area, some regularly travel from as far as Ballymena, Dungannon and Londonderry.

HMS Hibernia’s ship’s company hope to establish strong relationships with the local community just as HMS Caroline’s did during its long association with Belfast.

In 1972 HMS Caroline’s reservists received the Freedom of the City of Belfast and, with their RN compatriots, they also received the freedom of the Borough of Newtonabbey.
