King's Harbour Master Plymouth

LNTM No 14/14

  1. This notice is issued for information by the Queens Harbour Master Plymouth.
  2. In March 2000 the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) was introduced, and subsequently updated in October 2009. This specified a national standard for every aspect of port marine safety with the aim of improving safety for those who use or work in ports, their ships, passengers and cargoes, and the environment. It applies the principles of risk assessment and safety management systems to harbour authorities in the discharge of their legal duties and statutory powers. Although the code does not apply to the regulation of Dockyard Ports by Queen’s Harbour Masters, here in Plymouth, it sits very comfortably with our existing procedures and practices. The Ministry of Defence has produced the Dockyard Port Marine Safety Policy using the PMSC as a basis. You may find relevant information at QHM web site: (www.qhm.mod.uk/plymouth)
