PLYMOUTH LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS 045/21 

PLYMOUTH SOUND – INFORMATION 

THE HATCHLING - AFLOAT OPERATIONS – SAT 14 & SUN 15 AUG 
 
 
 
1.This notice is issued for information by the Queen’s Harbour Master, Plymouth pursuant to the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 2020.   
 
2.The Hatchling is an outdoor theatrical performance taking place in Plymouth over the weekend of 14 & 15 August. The finale will involve a large dragon shaped kite being flown over Plymouth Sound on Sun 15 Aug 2130 - 2210. A practice session using a smaller kite will be conducted on Sat 14 Aug 2130 - 2245.  
 
3.The kite will be launched from the Hoe then towed from West Hoe Bay, north of Drake’s Island to Barn Pool before being recovered to the shore. The kite will be towed by the vessel ‘St Nicholas’ and escorted by the tug ‘Prince Rock’. Flood lights will be used to illuminate the kite.  
 
4.The towing vessel and tug escort will display appropriate lights as required by International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.  
 
5.Mariners are requested to keep well clear and give these vessels a wide berth.  Mariners are also requested to refrain from anchoring in the central section of Barn Pool to allow recovery of the kite to the shore
