QHM's powers derive from the Dockyard Ports Regulations Act of 1865, which covers general powers for all QHM's in Dockyard Ports, and the Clyde Dockyard Port of Gareloch and Loch Long Order 2011. Other existing legislation relating to the Clyde Dockyard Port are the Faslane, Coulport and Rhu Narrows Byelaws (1986) and the Rhu Narrows Byelaws (1992).
