Role

HMS Grimsby (M108) is a Mine Counter Measures Vessel (MCMV). She maintains freedom of navigation on the high seas – vital to the UK international trade – by keeping international shipping lanes open.

Capability

As a minehunter, HMS Grimsby detects and destroys dangers under the water. A committed team of 38 use specialist skills and equipment including:

  • The SEAFOX Mine Disposal System to dispose of underwater ordnance and sea mines
  • Clearance Divers who carry out Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), underwater Mine Exploitation, Reconnaissance and Recovery
  • Advanced sonar – including brand new Thales technology.

She has a crew of 38, the majority of whom have done multiple deployments to the Middle East and Europe to work alongside NATO Allies.

Over the past five years she has had seven different crews and visited over 18 different countries, working tirelessly to maintains freedom of navigation on the high seas by keeping international shipping lanes open.
