The 40-mile walk, which was held for the 48th year in the Lake District, saw submariners from HMS Agamemnon, Achilles and Dreadnought, beat their shipbuilding rivals by more than one hour.
The gruelling route, which takes in Coniston, Grasmere, Thirlmere and the exposed heights of Kirby Moor, took place in temperatures exceeding 24C.
The Resolution Cup first took place in 1967 when the crew of HMS Resolution were challenged by workers at Vickers (now BAE) shipyard in Barrow to walk the 40 miles from Keswick. Each year the event raises more than £600,000 for local charities.
The RN team set off from Thirlmere at 0510 ready for what was ahead of them. The early bird certainly caught the worm and the group were treated with outstanding views of the rugged glacier shaped terrain of the lakes which spurred the team onto the first check point of nine miles, where the friendly faces of the support crew were waiting. The fine form continued as land marks were checked off and calories consumed, all whilst being cheered on by the local community who appeared to be out on mass.
The event’s first finisher was the RN’s Lt Cdr Joshua Crowther, who completed the course in a time of 4hours and 42 minutes.
AB Rory Spicer and Cdr Mikey Forrester also delivered fine performances of 5hrs 45 and 5hrs 50 to confirm their top-20 finishes.
Submariners continued to dive across the line and it became apparent that the team had left their BAE counterparts in their wake. Such was the strength of the performance the Resolution cup was won by the Submariner team by a staggering margin of 1 hour and 40 mins.
The RN team also won the Richardson Trophy for the best military team and the L Redshaw Cup for best overall team.
