Sultan say Thank You on Reserves Day
24 June 2020
The Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, Captain John Voyce OBE took the opportunity to celebrate and say thanks to all Reserves in the Armed Forces community on behalf of the Establishment on Reserves Day, as part of Armed Forces Week 2020.

Major Adrian Peel is a Garrison Engineer who left Regular Army service after 34yrs and transferred to the Army Reserve in 2018 as Officer Commanding 509 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (Ports Infrastructure).

He has been employed as the Site Manager of HMS Sultan since November 2018 after a brief period with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation as the Assurance Manager for the SE of England.

In his current Civil Service role, he is an SO1 in the Establishment HQ and responsible for the Hard Facilities Management of HMS Sultan including planned and responsive maintenance, project planning and delivery, and long-term estate development.

Working for the RN on a daily basis has developed his understanding of the service which will benefit Army/Navy interoperability.  His Army Reserve Role and wide experience of infrastructure support on numerous operations world-wide brings a good understanding of civilian and military infrastructure requirements as well as construction practice and safety which enhances his capabilities to benefit HMS Sultan.

As the Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan I am delighted to show our support and gratitude for our Armed Forces Reserves. Reservists play a vital role in ensuring our continued safety both at home and abroad, with many, including volunteers from Sultan who are currently supporting COVID efforts across Government departments. The skills they bring with them and develop through the experience are invaluable and benefit both employers and the Armed Forces.

Captain Voyce

The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces personnel and as such are integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber.

Adrian said: “Reservists come from all walks of life and the rewards for those involved are endless. The experience they gain from being a part of the unit is great for developing new skills, increasing confidence, discipline and leadership and all of these are transferable into the workplace.”
