They cycled from Land's End to the hospice in St Austell, a distance of 82.9 miles and raised £1751.23 to help children of Cornwall suffering from life limiting illnesses.
This was the third attempt at the cycle; the first two being victims of the weather, as both previous dates were when we had snow across the county.
Not deterred by this, the third try on Wednesday 21 March, was a total success. It was still a cold day, with the temperature at Land's End just one degree Celsius as they set off.
The team also had the challenges of road works to negotiate and very hilly roads. They were supported en-route by friends and family of the Squadron with refreshments and cheers and a mid-way stop at Culdrose where they were met by many from the Air Station.
All abilities took part in the ride. Most were just used to cycling to work and one had not been on a bike for four years.
There were a couple of mishaps on the way with Lieutenant Commander JP Moran falling off his bike before the start, as he failed to unclip from his pedals. Only his ego bruised, he put this behind him and got stuck into the ride.
After eight and half hours in the saddle and with tired legs, the team arrived at Little Harbour Hospice.
They had negotiated some big hills, had enjoyed a couple of coffee stops on the way and shared a few laughs.
They were greeted by some of the staff and residents of the Hospice. At this point the entertainment came from Chief Petty Officer Lee Schofield, as he too fell over on his bike with his feet stuck in his pedals.
Stories about the cycle were shared with the children of the hospice whilst enjoying a well-deserved pasty and coffee.
Well done to the cyclists and the support team for a very enjoyable, rewarding and worthwhile charity ride. Everyone concerned was very pleased with the total of £1751.23 raised.
