Collingwood digs deep for Military versus Cancer appeal

HMS Collingwood personnel joined other military establishments recently to raise money for two cancer charities as part of the nationwide Military vs Cancer 2018 campaign.
This appeal encourages members of all three Armed Forces to join together to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK in an effort to beat cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Support was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan after his father died from cancer and supports cancer patients from the moment of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond whilst also campaigning on cancer and health issues.
Cancer Research UK began as the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in 1902 and was carrying out tests to treat tumours as early as 1904.

It organises high-profile fund-raising events to raise money for research into cancer, its treatments and causes and also campaigns for healthier lifestyles and informs government decisions and policies.
At HMS Collingwood there was no shortage of enthusiasm from the volunteers who positioned themselves strategically throughout the Base to persuade as many people as possible to contribute.
AB Calum Salmon said, "We're more than happy to do this and it's a good spot here outside the Base store since everyone has to pay by cash and they've lots of change to give us! It's nice to see the response from people, which has been very generous."
AB Matthew Clarkson agreed, adding, "It nice to see how so many people care."
The total raised throughout the Base was a very impressive £525.
