14 June 2018
Officer Cadets from Edinburgh URNU raised £800 to support the charity Shakti Women’s Aid, based in Edinburgh.

Shakti’s aim is to offer help for black minority ethnic (BME) women, children and young people who are experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic abuse.

Services include support and refuge to victims of abuse, and consultancy to other agencies to improve policy and responses to BME women and children who experience domestic abuse.

The Officer Cadets had learnt about the work of Shakti and having been briefed on the charity’s work decided to focus on raising funds to support them.

Various fundraising events took place throughout the spring which culminated in a 1920’s themed Charity Ball. Many generous prizes were donated which generated a lot of funds in the charity raffle draw.

Officer Cadet Miller said, “We would like to thank Shakti for being such a wonderful charity to work with and we hope to continue our strong links with them”.
