HMS Collingwood employee hits new heights

Sue Haigh from HMS Collingwood’s Future Training Unit recently completed a charity abseil to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.
Sue stepped off from the top of Portsmouth’s iconic Emirates Spinnaker Tower and abseiled 100 feet to the bottom, taking plenty of time to enjoy the sights on the way.
Sue, who was trained in abseiling during her time in the Army, had also undertaken cliff abseiling before so she completed this challenge with aplomb.
She said, ‘As I stepped over the side of the platform, I thought “this is going to be fun” but the safety guy called me back. I was going too fast and he hadn’t tightened the safety harness! I thoroughly enjoyed it and as soon as I’d finished I wanted to go back up and do it all again.’
After her achievement Sue raised over £200 for the Army Benevolent Fund. Her next fund-raising event will be a Fun Run in October to raise money for local charities Naomi House and Jacks Place.
