Strength, determination, stamina, physical fitness Collingwood field gunners display it all

24 May 2016
It’s all systems go for the sailors of the HMS Collingwood Field Gun crews as they gear up for the annual Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) annual Field Gun competition.

The strength and determination of each individual was evident as they trained hard at the Fareham base in preparation for this year’s annual Competition which will see them compete for the Brickwoods Trophy, against crews from establishments across the UK, Gibraltar and Naples.

No 1 Trainer for the establishment’s A crew, Lieutenant Jason Steele said “HMS Collingwood Field Gun Crew 2016, have worked extremely hard this year to put Collingwood back on the map.

"The preparations are going well to date and we are looking forward to and are excited about the competition itself.

"Crews are improving year on year and we appreciate that the competition will be tough and look forward to the challenge – may the best crew win!”

The competition is fast and furious and requires 18-man teams to run, dismantle, reassemble and fire the gun in the shortest possible time, traditionally in heats of 6 crews at a time.

Join us on Saturday 4 June for the finals of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Field Gun Competition and HMS Collingwood Open Day.
