More than 20,000 Irishmen served in the Royal Navy, the Merchant Navy, fishing fleets, and maritime rescue services during World War 1.
They were all remembered in a moving ceremony to mark the centenary of the Battle of Jutland.
Descendants from across Ireland joined Prince Michael of Kent to mark the sacrifices of the Irish sailors, along with representatives of the Royal Navy, the Irish Naval Service and the German Navy.
The sole surviving ship from the Battle of Jutland – HMS Caroline – provided the backdrop as the Band of the Royal Marines (Scotland), members of HMS Hibernia and Sea Cadets led the guests in the tribute.
