12 August 2016
HMS Westminster Ship’s Company were privileged to be invited to Westminster Abbey to attend the annual Civic Service to welcome the incoming Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Steve Summers.

The Civic Service comprised of The Bidding delivered by the Dean of Westminster, hymns sang by the choir, as well as prayers and the National Anthem.

As the bells of Westminster Abbey indicated the end of the service, the Ship’s Company took their positions throughout the cloisters as the Guard of Honour.

The congregation proceeded to the gardens to celebrate the appointment of the Lord Mayor which involved plenty of light refreshments and photographs.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster has been an affiliate of the Ship throughout the many years of its operational service, and will continue to support the Ship upon return to active duty in early 2017.
