Open Day is a great opportunity for the Royal Navy to explain what we do here to the local community but also, importantly, to raise money for worthy causes too.

Also in attendance at the event were representatives from some of the Open Day’s Commercial sponsors, whose support make the event possible; Eight Wealth Management, Babcock International and Cobham.
Captain Andy Jordan, Commanding Officer, HMS Collingwood and the Maritime Warfare School, presented the cheques to the charities and said “It is a real pleasure for me to be able to present these cheques today.
“Open Day is a great opportunity for the Royal Navy to explain what we do here to the local community but also, importantly, to raise money for worthy causes too.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team who deliver the Day itself, everyone from the sailors and contractors here who gave up their spare time to our very generous sponsors.
“We wouldn’t be able to support these charities without their collective efforts.”
Alan Causer, Chairman of Parkinsons UK (Fareham Branch), said on receiving their donation, “We have to raise all our funds to cover our costs and to help make life a little easier for Parkinson’s sufferers and their carer’s and provide funds towards finding a cure for this progressive disease.
“Your kind donation will be put to good use, many thanks to the Captain and all at HMS Collingwood.”
The Open Day, held in June, is an annual event, this year attracting over 7,000 people, who enjoyed a variety of attractions in addition to the Field Gun Competition such as free funfair, Tigers motorcycle display team, tour of warship simulator and much more.
