THOUSANDS ENJOY RETURN OF POPULAR FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Thousands of spectators enjoyed a dazzling display on Thursday evening as the HMS Sultan Bonfire and Fireworks Night returned.

After a year away due to Covid-19 restrictions, there was much anticipation as guests were entertained on stage by Wave 105 presenter Tony Shepherd, a funfair and entertainers including firebreathers. 
 
Also, atop this year’s bonfire, was a giant 65 which glowed Sultan purple when lit by the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Mark Hook, as part of the Establishment’s ongoing anniversary celebrations. In addition, the fireworks finale took guests back through the years with music from every decade from the 1950s to the present day, recognising 65 years as a centre of excellence for Royal Navy Air and Marine Engineering.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, Captain John Voyce OBE, said: “Thank you to everyone who has come out to join us this evening. We are delighted to welcome so many members of our local community into HMS Sultan again for this special night, especially as we continue our 65th anniversary celebrations.

This display is about providing an exceptional and affordable display which can be enjoyed safely by everyone at HMS Sultan and our local community. But it also helps to raise much valued funds for our Services and local charities which is much needed after the difficult last 18 months.
