US Midshipman visit BRNC

Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) has welcomed six Midshipman from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.

The group, accompanied by one of their instructors, were in the UK as part of an Anglo-French tour visiting battlefields and participating in D-Day commemorations.  The visit was also designed to raise their awareness of NATO.

During their day at BRNC they participated in training on the River Dart using the College Picket Boats and were also given a tour of the College.

Captain Jol Woodard, the Commanding Officer of BRNC, said:  “BRNC has a very good relationship with the US Naval Academy and we were pleased to welcome the Americans to the College. 

The timing and reason for their visit was poignant given the role that Dartmouth and BRNC played in the D-Day landings in 1944, with many Americans leaving these shores for Normandy and the College being used as a US Naval Advanced Amphibious Base.”

On leaving BRNC the group visited the Exercise Tiger Memorial to US Forces en-route to HMS Drake in Plymouth.
