It’s a knockout at HM Naval Base Clyde

Military and civilian staff from HM Naval Base Clyde took part in the annual Christmas “It’s a Knockout” competition on Wednesday, December 4.

The highly competitive event, which took place in the HMS Neptune Sportsdrome, had around 20 Christmas themed activities including:  “Jumping for Christmas”, where teams had to put on an Elf costume while jumping on a bouncy castle; “Ain’t no mountain high enough”, where the challenge was to scale the climbing wall, collecting baubles on the way and an inflatable assault course called “The Christmas Gauntlet”, to name but a few.

Many of the teams entered into the Christmas spirit, wearing fancy dress and making up festive team names – there were the “Tooth Fairies” from the Dental Department, “Elf Physics” from the Health Physics Department and the ‘Ten Kings of Christmas’ from the Submarine Qualifying Course.

Around 20 teams from all over the Base entered and all of them were keen to come out on top. However, there could only be one winning team and when the final scores were in, one of the teams from the Submarine Qualifying Course picked up the first prize with Royal Marines from 43 Commando a close second. The prize for the best fancy dress went to ‘Vicious and Delicious’ from the Medical Centre.

Leading Physical Trainer Elise Broughton who helped organise the event said: “On behalf of the Physical Training department, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the teams who turned out for this year’s Christmas ‘It’s a Knockout’.

Later in the day, members and staff from the Helensburgh branch of Enable Scotland were invited along to the Base to take part.  Santa made an appearance to welcome them to the event and they all had a fantastic afternoon joining in the activities with the Sportsdrome Staff and volunteers.

Tracey Smith, a Personal Assistant with Enable said: “We would like to thank the staff at the Base for inviting us along, as they have done for the past three years. They make us feel welcome and It’s a day that all our guys look forward to in the run up to Christmas.”
