Officer Cadets help out at Dartmouth Charity event

Officer Cadets from Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) have lent their support to the Dartmouth Friends of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The Cadets helped volunteers and artists set up for the charity’s 15th annual Dartmouth Art and Craft Weekend and took down the gazebos and equipment at the end of both days.

Captain Jol Woodard, the Commanding Officer of BRNC, opened the event and presented a £1,000 cheque to volunteer Sue Tweed for Children’s Hospice South West from the BRNC Charities Committee. 

Brilliant weather all weekend brought out the crowds to watch demonstrations, browse and buy from the stalls of a record number of 36 artists and craft workers.  

Children’s Hospice South West provides over 500 life-limited children and their families with specialist care and ongoing bereavement support. 

It costs £9.8 million every year to run the three hospices in the region, of which only 15% is provided by government, the rest has to be raised by public donation and fundraising events such as this. 

The £5,103 raised at this event is £1,000 more than last year, a great boost towards helping Children’s Hospice South West to make the most of short and precious lives. 

Through their events, CHSW Dartmouth Friends Group aim to raise a substantial amount of money for, and awareness of this vital charity.
