Top racers compete in Cross-Country at Sultan

High winds and heavy rain didn’t stop local establishment’s top runners from competing in the Eastern Region Cross-Country Competition at HMS Sultan.

Over 40 runners from HMS Sultan, HMNB Portsmouth, HMS Collingwood, HMS Excellent and Royal Marines School of Music competed for a place in the top ten finishers in their category, to be part of the team who will compete in the Inter-Regional Cross-Country Competition in Dartmouth.

The course started with a lap around Fort Rowner then headed straight through the technical side of the site and around the polo fields before heading back along a similar route including heading around the Fort once more before a final sprint for the finish line.

Just a week before, 250 runners from Sultan had completed the course in the Establishment’s own cross country and, although that experience could have provided those runners with a slight advantage, however the winners were well spread from across the field with Fleet Diving Squadron finishing in first place overall with Collingwood in second and HMNB Portsmouth in third.
