Community keep Churchill tidy

Members of the Churchill community, both young and old, came together recently to clean up Churchill Square and the surrounding area.

The Churchill litter clean up took place in the evening of Thursday, June 1 and was supported by members of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Welfare (RNRMW) team, Aggie Weston's and the service family community.

In spite of the cold, damp weather, adults and children alike met at the Cosy Coffeehouse where they rolled up their sleeves, put on their rubber gloves and set off with their litter pickers to fill as many rubbish bags as they could.

"It was great to see the teams join together with members of the community to clean up the Square," said Base Warrant Officer Wayne Burbury, who went along to offer his support.

"I'd like to say a special thank you to all the children who braved the miserable weather to help pick up rubbish."

The team filled many bags and with the square looking much tidier, everyone returned cold and wet to the warmth of the coffeehouse to dry off and have a much needed hot drink and chocolate biscuit.

As a special treat, the children were rewarded for their hard work with the biggest bars of chocolate that could be found.
