Surf’s up for a challenge

Sailors from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose have been doing their bit for a Surf Charity in Cornwall this summer.

The naval volunteers helped to support “The Wave Project’s Summer Surf Challenge”, at Watergate Bay.

The annual event is aimed at supporting young people who suffer from anxiety and help improve their confidence both in and out of the water by teaching them to surf.

The team from Culdrose also helped to run free surfer taster sessions and lessons throughout the day for anyone who wanted to get involved.

The naval air station has supported this event for several years and hopes to continue in the future maintaining it’s important links with the local community.

Event founder and organiser Joe Taylor said after the event: “We are so pleased to once again have the support of RNAS Culdrose at the Summer Surf Challenge.

“This year we worked with more than 100 young people with complex disabilities over the weekend, so it was great to have the additional support of volunteers from the base.

"We hope to run the event again next year and would welcome the support of any staff who would like to get involved.”
