Charitable donation set to help service families

Families of Service personnel serving at HM Naval Base Clyde are set to benefit after a donation from charitable organisation “We Remember Submariners”.

On Thursday, January 19, a volunteer for the organisation, Warrant Officer 1 David Wynne, presented Royal Navy and Royal Marines Welfare (RNRMW) with a cheque for £1,000.  Collecting the cheque was Anne Burns, RNRMW Team Manager for Scotland.

“Royal Navy and Royal Marines Welfare would like to thank We Remember Submariners for their generous donation,” said Anne Burns.

“Some of the money will be used for an upcoming ‘Dad’s Day’ for the children of fathers who will deploy on duty.  There are also a number of other projects in the pipeline and the money will help enormously.”

The £1,000 was raised largely through the sale of Submariner Memorial pins.  For the past three-years Warrant Officer Wynne has sold them in the area with a generous donation going to a different good-cause each year.

“The donation on the first year helped to establish the Neptune Special Needs Support Group and last year monies went towards purchasing a Remembrance bench in Helensburgh’s Kidston Park,” said Warrant Officer Wynne.

“We are delighted to be able to support the RNRMW on this occasion in recognition of the incredible work they do in helping Armed Forces personnel and their families throughout the region.”

Also at the cheque presentation, which took part at HM Naval Base Clyde’s Belmore House, was Commodore Jim Perks, Commodore of the Submarine Flotilla (SUBFLOT) who praised both the generosity of the charity and the hard work of RNRM Welfare.

“The families of Service personnel are often the unsung heroes,” said Commodore Perks.  “While their loved-one is deployed, helping to keep the country safe, it is the knowledge of the love and support back home that sustains them.

“It is not always easy for our families and the assistance that Royal Navy and Royal Marines Welfare gives is vitally important.  I am very glad that We Remember Submariners has decided to donate this money to them and grateful for their support to the Service community.”

We Remember Submariners raise funds through donations, events and the sale of their unique Memorial pins.
