Engineering Officers give a day of their time to support RSPCA

A group of trainee engineering officers from HMS Sultan gave a day of their time recently to help make a difference at the Stubbington Ark RSPCA Animal Shelter.

Working alongside staff at the shelter, the trainees from the Defence College of Technical Training’s Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School (RNAESS) took on multiple tasks, the biggest of which included the removal of the roof of one of the kennel blocks to allow for future refurbishments.

In addition, the group also cleared the grounds of autumn foliage and helped with the day to day care of the animals.

The Stubbington Ark is a self-funded charity, the prime purpose of which is to re-home displaced animals, but they also provide welfare veterinary work for eligible animals; rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife and work experience placements for appropriate students.

The day was organised by Sub Lieutenant Holly Griffiths, who said “We all really enjoyed helping the staff, and of course, taking the dogs out for walks.

“Thankfully the weather has been fantastic, with blue skies and the sun shining so we have been able to get loads done to support the shelter in their work.”

Air Engineers and Air Engineering Technicians from HMS Sultan were recently recognised in the We Can Do It Awards at a ceremony in Portsmouth, receiving a prize as runner up for the Best Art/Community Project for their on-going commitment to serving the local community.
