Clyde workers present cheque to Dunbartonshire charity

Fundraisers from HM Naval Base Clyde presented a cheque for £5,250 to the Vale of Leven Autism and Asperger’s Forum in Renton on Thursday 13th October.

The team raised the money by completing a 12 mile ramble over the Kilpatrick Hills on Saturday 20th August and also arranging an event at Dumbarton Masonic Lodge on Saturday 1st October.

250 People attended the fund raiser which featured a live band, buffet and a fantastic raffle with prizes donated by lots of Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute businesses.

The group of fundraisers consisted of 40 sailors, civilians from HM Naval Base Clyde and their friends from across the Vale of Leven. 

A small group from the organising committee presented the cheque to children, parents and volunteers who make use of the Forum’s services.

Vale of Leven Autism and Asperger’s Project’s Mrs Nina Chapman said, “The monies raised will make a huge difference allowing us to provide support groups, youth clubs and playschemes. We will also be able to provide training opportunities for parents and carers and as well as trips and special events.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure to support a local charity and long may the engagement continue,” said Mr James Ford, a member of the organising committee.

The HM Naval Base Clyde team has raised a total of £16,000 over the last three years, the previous for Clic Sargent and The Child Brain Injury trust.  Discussions are already underway to decide which local good cause will be supported in 2017.
