Last term saw numerous excellent performances from several members of Somerset’s Ship’s Company during an eventful and demanding period involving several Fleet Ready Escort and Duty Towed Array Patrol Ship activations, alongside key training and development serials such as Advanced Phase Sea Week.

Although all members of Somerset’s Team rose to these challenges, some stood out above the rest and were rightly recognised during the end of term awards ceremony.

‘The Commanding Officer’s Award for Efficiency’ went to: LWtr Kerry Wallis (Logistics Department), LS(AWT) Holly Sadler (Warfare Department), ET(WE) Benjamin Venables (Weapon Engineering) and for the Marine Engineer’s the entire ‘Tanky’ Team comprising of CPO Hewet, LET Murray, ET Dawson and ET Jones.

The award for Wholeship Efficiency went to LPT Jordan Bate.

HMS Somerset’s Commanding Officer, Cdr Tim Berry RN presented the awards and was full of praise for the summer term’s standout personnel; “The competition this term for awards has been incredible and indicative of the ethos we inspire in the Royal Navy.

“There were so many candidates to choose from, but in the end we have highlighted those who have contributed most to delivering excellence in everything they do.”

LPT Bate said: “It is an honour to have been selected for this award.

“As the Ship’s Leading Physical Trainer it is my responsibility to grow and promote interest in sport throughout the ship.

“The fact that our football team now has over 30 members is testament to the keen number of sportsmen and women we have in the Royal Navy.”
