Royal Navy charity cyclists warm-up

Cyclists from the Royal Navy submarine HMS Talent staging a fixed-cycle ride at a Plymouth supermarket on yesterday (Wednesday) ahead of a charity road ride from Plymouth to London.

The submariners completed 400km (248 miles) on the training pedal - the distance of the actual cycle ride in November. They also raised £983.40p by collecting from shoppers at Sainsbury’s, at Plympton, for the Royal Navy/Royal Marines Charity.

Team organiser Chief Petty Officer Craig Parker said: “I’d like to thank all the generous shoppers at Sainsbury’s and the store for supporting us. This has been excellent training for our real ride to London.’’

The other Plymouth-based sailors Chief Petty Officers Scott Yeardle and Matthew Bradley and Warrant Officers Jimmy Dyke and Paul Fendyke and Leading Seaman Matthew Mead are aiming to cover the main ride of 248 miles on November 4 in less than 24 hours.

Their arrival in London will coincide with the national Submariners’ Memorial Ceremony in London.
