Clyde Commandos deliver match ball at Autumn International

Royal Marines from 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group (43 Cdo FPGRM) at HM Naval Base Clyde were given the privilege of delivering the match ball at the Scotland v Australia autumn international rugby match on Saturday.

A ten man team of Royal Marine Commandos, led by 43 Cdo Mountain Leader Sergeant Bobby Scott, abseiled from the roof of Murrayfield to the delight of some 63,000 onlookers.  

The team then delivered the match ball to referee John Lacey, allowing the match to begin.

“It was a really great event and a fantastic experience for all the Royal Marines involved,” said Sergeant Scott.  

“The opportunity to deliver the match ball was all the more special as we were able to do this on Remembrance weekend.”

After the crowd and players observed the two-minute silence, the Royal Marines were treated to pitch-side seats to watch a great afternoon of International Rugby which saw Australia narrowly win by 23 to 22.
