Naval families help bring Christmas cheer to sick kids

Generous naval families from HM Naval Base Clyde helped bring some Christmas cheer to kids at The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow recently.

The families – who all have loved-ones serving at the military base – decided to cancel the Christmas cards this year and use the money to buy toys for children spending the festive season on the hospital’s Schiehallion Oncology Ward instead. 

Handing over the toys on behalf of the naval families on December 20 was Catherine Wynne whose daughter, Madeline, finished two years of chemotherapy treatment in May for a spinal cord tumour and is currently doing well.  

“Hopefully this will help put smiles back onto the children’s faces and make their long and hard treatment more bearable,” said Catherine. 

This will be the second year the local naval families have supported the ward, ensuring brave children get to choose a toy from the “Fairy Box” after undergoing upsetting procedures. 

The Schiehallion Ward is a specialist ward for Oncology at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.
