Lady Sponsor visits HMS Triumph

Submariners serving in HMS Triumph have been based at HMNB Clyde for much of this year while the Trafalgar-Class SSN completes a planned maintenance period.

With the work-up package nearing completion, officers and crew conducted Ceremonial Divisions to which the Ship’s Sponsor, Lady Hamilton of Epsom, was invited.

She was accompanied by her husband, Lord Archibald Hamilton, former Armed Forces Minister under Margaret Thatcher and john Major.

The Lord and Lady were hosted by the CO, Commander David M Filtness RN, as they were shown around HMS Triumph in the Faslane ship-lift before attending the Divisions.

It is with enormous pride that I present my ship’s company to Lady Hamilton.

Commander Filtness

It was the first time since the commissioning of the boat in 1991 that Lady Hamilton had visited.

Cdr Filtness said: ‘It is with enormous pride that I present my ship’s company to Lady Hamilton.

"They have worked exceptionally hard throughout this demanding maintenance period to ensure that HMS Triumph will be able to return to sea later this year and continue to provide the vital capability that only an SSN can offer.”
