HMS Trumpeter and HMS Explorer open to visitors Chatham

Two of the Royal Navy’s smallest ships are sailing into Chatham Historic Dockyard in support of the ‘Salute to the 40s’ event on Saturday 17 September and Sunday 18 September and will open to visitors from 11am to 5pm on both days.

Both vessels will be berthed at Thunderbolt Pier in Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Commanding Officer of HMS Trumpeter, Lieutenant Morris said, “Trumpeter has attended the Salute to the 40s before and it is always an excellent event. We managed to show round over 300 visitors last year and look forward to more when we open to the public this year.”

HMS Trumpeter and HMS Explorer are two of 14 P2000 Fast Inshore Patrol Craft from the Portsmouth-based First Patrol Boat Squadron.

Their primary role is to support the University Royal Naval Units but they also contribute to a wide range of Fleet tasking.

HMS Trumpeter is the training vessel for Cambridge University Royal Naval Unit and HMS Explorer provides sea training opportunities for undergraduates from the Universities of Yorkshire.

Trumpeter will leave Chatham early Sunday evening and Explorer sails early on Monday morning.
