Armed Forces Day 2022

With a week of events in and around the town leading-up to the day itself, Armed Forces Day 2022 takes place on Saturday, 25th June, in Scarborough.

Held annually, Armed Forces Day gives everyone a chance to show support to the women and men that serve their country in the British Armed Forces. A chance also to show your support for veterans, cadets, Reserves and the families of those who serve, there are events throughout the country in the week leading up to the last Saturday in June every year.

To see where your local events are taking place, to organise a celebration of your own, or to learn more about the event, head to the Armed Forces Day website.

Scarborough finally finds its force

With the Royal Navy proudly leading the events, the 2022 national celebrations will at last be hosted in and around Scarborough. The event is more eagerly anticipated than ever this year, with the town originally scheduled to play host in 2020, and Covid seeing the last two years of Armed Forces Day not celebrated nationally at all.

A whole week of events are taking place. Military football matches literally kicked things off on Saturday 18th June, while today - Monday 20th June, will see the coordinated flag raising ceremonies. Events will climax with a performance from The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood, in Scarborough Spa to close the celebrations.

Hosted by Scarborough County Council, highlights of the week in and around the town include:

Monday 20th June – Flag raising day (the Royal Navy will lead on the flag raising in Scarborough, the Army in Whitby and the RAF in Filey)
Tuesday 21st June – Armed Forces Sport and Recreation Day
Wednesday 22nd June – Reservist Day
Thursday 23rd June – STEM Day
Friday 24th June – Operations and commitments
Saturday 25th June – National Armed Forces Day
