Royal Navy Small-bore Shooter scores again!

Storyline: Shooting

Three Royal Navy Shooters entered the Surrey County Open, held at Worplesdon Rifle Club.

The competition took place between 50 and 100 yards, with 40 scoring shots counting at each distance.

The thunder and lightening crackling overhead was not enough to deter the Royal Navy Shooters, who were up against competitors from across the Surrey County and beyond. It was a close competition with ever changing conditions of heavy rain and brief periods of sunshine.

After having a successful time at the NSRA National Meeting, PO Robynne Brown came 1st place in Competitions 1 and 2, with a first place overall in competition 3.

To add to the success, the Royal Navy Small-bore Shooting Club (RNSSC) achieved a 3rd Place in the Club Pairs Match, with PO Robynne Brown and Lt Neil Umpleby making the pair.

The day also saw one of the Royal Navy’s newer shooters Lt Dominic Berry, take part in his first outdoor range competition and his first time competing on 50 and 100-yard targets.

Dominic said, 'It was great to get the experience at Worpelsdon, very different to the Lord Roberts Electronic range, having to rely on using a scope to spot your shots on the target. I really enjoyed the day and hope to do it again.'

The Small-bore team continues to look to compete in various matches, raising the wider awareness of the Royal Navy in competitive events and improve its squad experience and shooting abilities.
