CTCRM find their NAVYfit

The Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone delivered their second NAVYfit Festival of Sport.

The Royal Marines Sport Association (RMSA), along with the CTCRM Unit Physical Training Instructor, Sgt John Creese, delivered their second Festival of Sport as part of the Graduated Return to Training (GRT) week for all phase 1 trainees at CTCRM.

The event saw 412 participants throughout the day who were all exposed to a Grassroots activity of their choice.

Activities included, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Stand Up Paddle-boarding, Indoor Climbing, Lacrosse, Nordic Skating and ESport (FPV Drone).

WO2 Richie Hall of the RMSA said, ‘The event was a huge success and once again highlights the importance of the sport in the Moral Component of Operational Capability.

The subtle activity selection enabled Recruits and Young Officer’s to be exposed to operationally linked sports which will benefit the Royal Marines in the future.’

As part of the FOS and as a background activity, a static drone demonstration was given using the T150 drone through Malloy Aeronautics. This was excellently received and given the acceleration of drone use operationally, it gave a great insight for the phase 1 trainees.

WO2 Hall added, ‘As a look forward, Maj Whisky Grounsell (Cdo Force Programme Team) has challenged Malloy Aeronautics to a Drone v Marine race around the bottom field assault course so watch this space!

The subtle activity selection enabled Recruits and Young Officer’s to be exposed to operationally linked sports which will benefit the Royal Marines in the future.
