Royal Marines Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters travelled to London to train with some of the top coaches in the UK.

After settling in to the accommodation at RMR London and setting out matts in the main hall, the team kicked off the weeks training at Roger Gracie’s Headquarters in Hammersmith for a private seminar with full time coach Alex Smith.

The Roger Gracie academy is world renowned for its exceptional competitors, as well as its enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere to train.

The following day began with a seminar hosted at RNR London with two of the top coaches within the UK; London Grapple head Mixed Martial Art Coach, Mat Inman, and London Grapple Co-owner Aidan Woodhouse.

With just a few hours rest in the afternoon to explore London, the team headed to Submission Grappling Club, an elite dojo run out of Southwest London.

Submission Grappling is home to acclaimed JiuJitsu competitors Silviu Nastasa, and Eoghan O’Flanagan. Still highly active in the competitive scene, Eoghan is regarded as one of the best grapplers globally at his weight class.

The team had an evening of hard sparring and benefited greatly from the combined knowledge of 40 years+ grappling from the coaches.

In the morning, the team headed to Richmond to the club Elevate, which has a great facility and coaching style, offering a change in pace for the team to focus on positional sparring and round.

In the evening the team headed to the HQ of London Grapple in order to attend the class of head coach Ross Nicholls, a legend in UK Martial Arts who is at the cutting edge of the latest BJJ techniques.

For the final training session of the week, the team headed to one of the newest clubs in London and the hot spot for competitive athletes to train, Los Banditos Grappling Club.

This rounded off the week focused on exposing the Royal Marines to some of the best athletes, coaches, and clubs within the game.

The feedback from the team reflected the skill development learned within the week, the enthusiasm for training with high-calibre athletes, and the excitement and interest in future training camps.
