Royal Navy Shooters compete in National Meet

The Royal Navy sent 4 of its Small-bore Rifle Team to the National Small-bore Rifle Association’s (NSRA) National Meeting.

Held at the famous Bisley Shooting Grounds on Century Range, the competition took place over a week with events happening each day. It proved an intensive week with varied weather conditions.

It was the Royal Navy's LH Chris Nunan's first time at the National Meeting, and he made the most of it, taking first place in Class C Competition 3, The Gilby Trophy! The competition required 40 shots at 100 yards and Chris took the lead by 3 points with a score of 375/400 during harsh conditions with wind changing constantly throughout the match.

The Royal Navy shooters were on form, with PO Robynne Brown taking 2nd Place in C Class Competition 9 and a Bronze in the Life and Annual Members.

The County competitions were also held during the National Meeting, seeing Lt Neil Umpleby RN asked to shoot for Kent and PO Robynne Brown for the Hampshire Ladies Team. Lt Umpleby took Kent’s top shot on the County Sextette Match with a score of 394/400.

Not stopping there, Neil went on to take the Royal Navy’s top shot of the week.

The Meeting was a great success for the team, with not only its members being seen competing in Royal Navy colours but also supporting the event acting as Range Conducting Officers (RCOs) and providing wider support.

The team now looks ahead to various upcoming competitions before the Small-bore Long Range Inter-Service event due to take place in November.
