The Royal Navy head back to Lords for Cricket T20 final

This year’s Cricket Inter-Service T20 final and United Kingdom Armed Forces Women’s match return to the home of Cricket on Wednesday 10th of May 2023.

The UKAF Inter-Services T20 is a triangular Twenty20 tournament involving all 3-armed forces who play for the Inter-Services T20 Trophy. First held in 2005 at the Army Cricket Ground at Aldershot, this will be the eighteenth year that the tournament has been held.

Each of the Armed Forces senior XIs play two Twenty20 games in the Inter-Services T20 tournament. 

The first of these matches will take place on the 5th of May in Portsmouth when the Royal Navy take on the RAF, with the remaining matches taking place at the Armed Forces Cricket Day at Lord’s on the 10th of May.

The winning team from the 5th May will head into battle against the Army to put a stop to their reign and try to prevent them from retaining the trophy for a record fourth year running!

Last year the Army’s left-handed batsman, LCpl Tade Carmichael helped them maintain their firm grip on the trophy in style, earning himself ‘Player of the Tournament.’ 

The best of the United Kingdom Armed Forces Women will start the day off as they take on Middlesex Cricket Club on their home turf, promising to be a tremendous spectacle for Armed Forces Cricket.

MCC CEO, Guy Lavender, a former Army Officer, said, “The MCC are delighted to welcome the Armed Forces community to Lord’s for a very special competition once again. 

“As proud supporters of the Armed Forces Covenant, we are delighted to offer a special rate to our servicemembers and their forebears to acknowledge and celebrate their outstanding service to our country. 

“I am also delighted that this year we will be helping to raise money for Blind Veterans UK.”
 
Vice Admiral Andy Burns, the president of UK Armed Forces Cricket said, “we are honoured to be invited to return to the home of Cricket, it is the highlight of our season and it is wonderful that our service women are now also part of the day.  

“The generosity of the MCC in hosting us for the day is made extra special by this great initiative to encourage the widest possible attendance from those that are serving or who have served.  It is a great day I hope you will be able to join us.”

To both recognise and encourage a larger crowd, the MCC are introducing a new ticket price for the serving and veteran community where they can enter the ground for the bargain price of £10 per ticket.
