‘I can’t see why we can’t go one further this year and come away with two victories and most importantly, the trophy,’ vows a confident Navy Skipper Johnston going into next month's Inter-Services battles

AB Ben Johnston is relishing his first trip to Lords Cricket Ground as Royal Navy skipper where he will lead his side out in the Inter services T20s on Thursday 16 June.

Johnston is no stranger to the Home of Cricket, having played there for his club side Nantwich CC in 2019 in The ECB National Club Championship Cup - is enjoying leading the side and is confident of his charges putting in a good show in London.

The left-handed batting all-rounder said:

“What I’m hoping for this year is to turn up at Lord's demonstrating a positive, aggressive style of cricket and just to really focus on executing what we do well as a side and as individuals. Also, and most importantly, try and enjoy playing the game together.

Johnston added:

“We have already shown last year that we are a competitive side and I can’t see why we can’t go one further this year and come away with two victories and most importantly, the trophy.”

Last year’s tournament, which was played at Arundel Castle Cricket Club, was won by the Army on net run rate after all three Forces won one game and lost one game - and this season’s games are expected to be as close.

Next month also sees the three Forces return to Lord's for the first time since 2019. The tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic and moved to Arundel Castle Cricket Club last year, and this year’s spectacle promises to be bigger than ever with all three sides confident of victory.

This year also sees the United Kingdom Armed Forces Cricket Association Women's XI grace the hallowed turf in London for the first time on Inter Services T20 Day. They are set to face an MCC Women’s XI in a 20-over contest.

What I’m hoping for this year is to turn up at Lord's demonstrating a positive, aggressive style of cricket and just to really focus on executing what we do well as a side and as individuals.
